Isuzu Trooper Issues Avoid Detection

2018 Isuzu Trooper Transmission Problems

Dear Suzanne,

I have a 2018 Isuzu Trooper that I purchased new and now has 47,000 miles. Since I’ve gotten it, I’ve taken it to the Isuzu dealership for repairs about seven or eight times. It seems to have a few problems, but the transmission is the worst. When I try to accelerate, the whole thing jerks and shakes, even though they’ve already replaced the shifter. It seems as though the problem disappears whenever the dealership technicians look at it though, since they’ve never been able to duplicate the issue.

Could this be a lemon case even though I’ve had the truck for a while? If they can’t duplicate the problem, does that mean I don’t have a case?

Gather All Repair Documentation (Repair Orders)

Dear Trooped,

Isuzu Troopers are unfortunately known for having transmission issues. And the fact that they replaced your shifter, even when they couldn’t duplicate the problem, leads me to believe they know this is just the beginning of significant transmission problems.

While you are close, you’re still within your powertrain warranty, which is critical. To qualify for California lemon law, a vehicle must have had at least two to three repair attempts while still covered under that manufacturer’s warranty. With seven or eight visits under your belt, you’ve definitely hit the minimum and then some, with each subsequent repair helping to improve your claim.

What will be most crucial for your claim are your repair orders. Each time you bring your vehicle into a dealership for repairs, they are required to give you a written receipt showing your concerns, the mileage, any repairs they made, and whether those repairs were covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Even when they were unable to duplicate the issue, so long as that was noted on the repair order, that visit can be used towards your claim.

For a case like this, you will find it incredibly helpful to consult with a California lemon law attorney. Their knowledge of the ins and outs of lemon law will prove invaluable to you. Their services also come at no cost to you, because in California, the manufacturer is responsible for all attorney’s fees and court costs. You only have a short while left in your warranty, so it’s best to begin the process as soon as possible so that the manufacturer can’t claim the issues are caused by normal wear and tear. Gather up all your documents and contact one of the skilled lemon law attorneys in our network so you can get back on the road soon.
