Is Your Hyundai Safe? Check If Your Model Is Part of This Major Recall

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling over 50,000 vehicles due to issues with the fuel pump that could cause a loss of drive power.

In a statement released to ABC News last July 18, Hyundai explained:

“To ensure the safety of its customers, Hyundai Motor North America and Genesis Motor North America has filed recall campaign 262/023G to address a condition involving the high-pressure fuel pump assemblies in certain Hyundai and Genesis vehicles produced for sale in the U.S. and Canada.”

Affected Hyundai Models

The recall affects specific 2022-2023 Elantra N, Kona N, 2019-2023 Genesis G70, and 2019-2022 Veloster N vehicle models numbering about 54,647 vehicles.

“The fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power,” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). A sudden power loss while driving at cruising speeds can potentially increase the risk of a crash.

The Fix

To fix the problem, Hyundai dealers will update the engine control module software. They will also inspect the fuel pump assembly and replace it if needed. All repairs will be carried out at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Affected owners will be notified by mail starting September 9, 2024 and can have the issue repaired for free at Hyundai dealerships.
